Place Masséna is a square in the city center of Nice, named in homage to the Empire Marshal André Masséna, born in Nice. Since its construction progressive from the years 1820-1830, the Place Masséna has deeply inscribed in the heritage of Nice. It is a "jewel" of the city and a central area of the city of Nice.
On the southern part of the square, in the heart of the former Charles-Albert Square, is the "fountain of the sun", which was inaugurated in 1956. There are five bronze statues sculpted by Alfred Janniot. The choice of a world-renowned architect characterizes well the importance that the city of Nice decorates the embellishment of the place Massena. They all represent characters of Greco-Roman mythology: Earth, Mars, Venus, Mercury and Saturn. In the center of the fountain is a statue of Apollo in marble seven meters high.
